ZAMBOANGA CITY Kaka Brazil Jersey , the Philippines, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Three Filipino social workers were kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf gunmen on Thursday in southern Philippine province of Sulu, police said on Friday.
The victims were kidnapped while they were conducting a survey of the number of poor villagers to be included in the government's cash assistance program, guided by a village official, said Abraham Orbita, the director of Sulu police station.
Philippine Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provincial office has confirmed that the victims were their workers.
Orbita said pursuit operations have been going on to track down and rescue the victims.
